Programmes of Study
Universities and other higher education institutions in Germany will soon be offering almost exclusively the internationally recognised Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. As from the Winter Semester 2009/10 the University of Music and Drama Hannover (Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hannover – HMTH) has introduced such degree courses across the board (except in Drama).
The introduction of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees does not mean any change in the content of the courses, or in the typical forms of tuition in individual tutorials and small groups.
The subject-matter of all first degree courses will be taken up in a variety of ways in postgraduate (Master’s degree) courses and supplemented there by interesting new possibilities, so that all students who obtain a Bachelor’s degree will be able to continue their studies as postgraduates at the HMTH. In some cases, the Master’s degree courses will not be offered until the Winter Semester 2010/11; the Registration Office (Immatrikulationsamt) will be pleased to give you any information you may require on the entire range of courses.
Bachelor’s degree courses last eight semesters, or six semesters in the case of purely academic courses; Master’s degree courses last four semesters.
Students can now be accepted into “Diplom” courses only in higher semesters (except in Drama). The “Diplom” courses are being phased out.
